The value pursuit of Yangmingxin and its modern meaning

Abstract: Value concepts are often born from subjective ideas, and they also become the soul of the life world because of their implementation and expression in social career. But this does not mean that value concepts are born in sync with subjective consciousness, but must be expressed as a certain inheritance and development of previous value concepts; only after the subjective energy is truly established, new value concepts can be truly born. This characteristic of value concept is also fully reflected in Wang Yangming’s life’s pursuit: from his fantasy of “reading saints” to the “learning of body and mind” to the establishment of his personal energy and the opening of the purpose of the inner nature, the Confucian tradition of caution and sincerity can be activated, and the individuality of its “world” can be truly formed. This world-oriented approach rooted in the “prudent” tradition and expressed by “integrity” also provides a value-based foundation for Confucianism from agricultural civilization to industrial and commercial civilization; and the independent, equal independent energy and professional ethics and contract principles formed by this not only reflects the basic energy of individual character behavior, but also represents the positive meaning of Yangmingxin’s academics for modern industrial and commercial civilization.

 

 

Wang Yangming (1472-1529) is a Confucian thought master who is more modern than us.
